It was beautiful from beginning to end. I started getting the "happy birthday" phones calls from midnight..went to bed around 3 a.m...and was awaken around 7:30 by my sister with my birthday greeting. I got a much needed mani/pedi, (i.e. manicure & pedicure), went to the Houston Museum of Arts & Science to see their exhibit on "Lucy", and then had dinner with a friend. At the end of the evening I enjoyed a cup of Seattle's best coffee! lol I haven't had any since leaving California and I was so happy to enjoy that taste again. It doesn't take much to make me happy! lol

So I'm a year older and a lot wiser..let's see what God's got in store for me this year.

The lover of my soul

There have been many times throughout my walk with the Lord where I could sense His presence and feel His love in an almost tangible way..and today was one of those days. I had an absolutely wonderful day! It seems like all day long the Lord was loving on me. He used various methods to communicate His desires for me and I feel so honored and so blessed. Its good to serve a God who is real, One who knows what we need right when we need it.

Last night He placed a song on my heart..part of the lyrics says, "They will know we are Christians by our love"..I don't know where that song came from because I haven't heard it in years. And today, He demonstrated Christian love to me. What a mighty God!

So on this journey to discover my passion I know that He is right here inside of me, and walking right beside me. My hand is in His hand, and as long as I allow Him to, He will lead me towards my passion and purpose.

Jesus is the lover of my soul

The value of friendship

On the journey to discover my passion I've discovered that strong and positive friendships are paramount. In a day and age when so many people are unreliable, selfish, or just downright "shady", I feel so blessed to have loving and supportive friendships. In the Bible (John 15:12-13), Jesus said this: "I command you to love each other in the same way that I love you. And here is how to measure it-the greatest love is shown when people lay down their lives for their friends."

"Lay down their lives" can be literal or figurative, (depending on the situation one finds themselves in), but there are many ways that I see this display of love and friendship in my own life. I just finished a 2 hour conversation with a friend who offered so much good advice and encouragement that by the end of the conversation I felt uplifted! My friend "laid down her life" by sacrificing her time, offering to assist me, and showing her support." I have friends who continuously reassure me that I am in their prayers and speak blessings over my life! They laugh with me, and share in my angst as I try to find springs in this desert place. A few weeks ago a friend sent me money in the mail! It came totally unexpected because I didn't ask or complain about anything..this was yet another display of love and friendship. Another thing I like about my friendships: not only do we walk in love, we also speak it! Our conversations are often seasoned with, "I love you", "You have my support", "I'm so proud of you", "You know I got ya back!", "How can I help?"

Because of my friends I feel like a rich woman! I am truly blessed! And I try to be there for them like they are for me. I am also keenly aware that my friendships are an extension of Jesus' love for me. Since I don't believe in coincidences, I believe that my friendships were handpicked by Jesus, and that makes them even more special in my eyes. My friends may never know just how much their phone calls, networking connections, and support mean to me at this time in my life. But I hope that by being a good friend in return they will know just how much they mean to me...that and the fact that I'm putting them on blast on the Internet!

To my friends: thank you for the love, thank you for the support, the "hook ups", the prayers, the advice and the laughter! For all that you do on my behalf, you are appreciated.

With all my love!

First experience catering!

Since I'm currently between jobs, most days my thoughts tend to vacillate between landing my dream job or launching a fabulous business! Since I've been harboring entrepreneurial dreams for quite some time I came up with the great idea of catering "on the side." I had an order for 20 people today and all kinda stuff went wrong! My food turned out good...but it was really stressful to cook the food, fix the plates, package them and driver half an hour away to deliver them all by myself. Who knew the journey to my finding my passion would take a detour in the kitchen. But it's good that it did, because now I know catering is not for me.

7 DAYS TILL MY BIRTHDAY!

Starting September 1st I unabashedly remind my family and friends of my birthday every chance I get. Since I'm not a morning person in the least, I feel quite proud of myself. Its a routine I'd like to become a habit because I must admit it felt good to get an early start on the day.

I went to a workplace resource center today and was assisted by a really nice lady. However, I found her quite amusing..she was intrigued by the fact that I was from the Bay Area and shared with me that Houston didn't have any culture and in her opinion is just "a big ole' country town!" She is a Dallas native, and so she tried to explain to me the difference between Houston and Dallas. The whole time I'm nodding and smiling but I'm thinking to me Dallas/Houston same thing, its still the South! She did however tell me that Austin is comparable to the Bay Area...so that's on my list of places to visit.

This week I caught an episode of the View...and to my surprise/shame/dismay when Whoopi asked Sherri Shepard if she thought the world was flat she responded by saying, "I don't know..its not something I've ever thought about!" WHAT? Well....the interesting part of the conversation was when they discussed if God really make the earth in 7 literal days. The Bible states that a day with God is like a thousand years. Could it be that it wasn't 7 consecutive days as most of us thought? Something to make you go hmmm hmmm hmmmm........

the desert place!

In July of 2007 I packed up my bags and left the beautiful hills, weather and sunshine of the San Francisco Bay Area and headed to Houston, Texas! Hot and humid..Houston! Imagine my surprise when I stepped outside one evening and noticed at least half a dozen miniature frogs just chilling in the street! The site has now become a typical occurrence..but its still unnerving. The other day my cousin and I poured salt on one of them, (we used to do this as children in Trinidad), and the poor thing just swelled up and ran off! Yuck! And lets not talk about the mosquito's which often prevents me from standing outdoors to enjoy a decent conversation...which if of course after the sun goes down in the cool of the night.
